About me
I go by DJ G-CELL, also known as Redundant, but my real name is Giuseppe Giulio Caponetto, born in 1990. Originally from Italy, I'm now based in Switzerland. My journey as a DJ and electronic music producer began when I was twelve, experimenting with vinyl records in genres like Soul, Disco, and Hip Hop.
This biography, like my music, is written in my own words, capturing the authenticity of my sound. My passion for music started during summers at my uncle's radio station, A.N.T.A.N.I., in Sicily. By the time I was fifteen, my love for DJing clashed with my father’s more entertainment-focused approach to music.
Around that time, I immersed myself in hip-hop culture, thanks to my friend Vittorio Falcone (Totorima), discovering turntablism and beatmaking. I started with Madtracker and then moved on to Fruityloops, though I initially struggled with the technical side of production.
Everything changed when I began using an Akai MPC 2000 XL, which introduced me to the natural, unpolished rhythm of drum programming. Over time, I combined the art of sampling, inspired by the documentary Copyright Criminals, with the use of both software and hardware synths.
My studies in computer science deepened my love for minimalism, shaping my sound, which now flows between hip-hop, house, and techno, blending nostalgic grooves with experimental touches.
